 Psoriasis

Our treatment does not start at the symptom but at the cause.

Arrange your appointment at DKZ online.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammation of the skin, nails and joints.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the skin, nails and joints and affects around 2% of the population.

The disorder can present in various ways and sufferers’ quality of life can be severely affected. We can use modern treatments to ensure you feel good in your skin.

The most common form of psoriasis (Psoriasis vulgaris) usually affects the scalp, the skin on the elbows or the back of the knees. This results in the formation of clearly demarcated red areas of skin, which are covered with silvery-white scales and are usually associated with itching.

In other cases, in addition to the skin, the joints (Psoriasis arthritis) or finger- and toenails are also affected by the disorder. In addition to skin scales, pustules can also form on the skin (Psoriasis pustulosa).

The inflammation can be triggered by physical and mental stress, the consumption of drugs or injuries. Stress can exacerbate the symptoms and in rare cases the disorder can spread to the whole body.  Since the quality of life of sufferers is severely affected, it is important to start treatment as soon as possible.

Your route to healthier skin

Diagnosis

In order to be able to treat the disease quickly and accurately, we first analyze your medical history. Subsequently, the body region, intensity and expression of the diseased skin are examined. Here it is particularly important to determine whether nails or joints are affected. This has a great influence on the choice of therapy. To differentiate the diagnosis from diseases with similar symptoms, we take a skin sample under local anesthesia and examine it in our own laboratory.

Treatment

The treatment options for psoriasis vary depending on the affected body region and the severity. For example, we often treat with various creams with and without cortisone, supported by highly lipid-replenishing body lotions. Irradiation of the skin cells with UV light is another effective therapy. If basic therapeutic measures do not show sufficient effect, special drugs are used.

In recent years, very efficient methods have been developed with so-called "biologicas", in which the symptoms heal almost completely. Patients can often live symptom-free, which greatly improves the quality of life of people affected by psoriasis.
