Almost everyone is affected by eczema in the course of their lives.
The term "eczema" summarises skin diseases that are characterised by itching and inflammation of the skin. Eczema is not contagious and can be treated well if its cause is known. Eczema can develop due to various causes: Due to external influences (allergic and non-allergic contact eczema) or internal causes (atopy).
Contact eczema
They are caused by contact with certain substances or materials.
Allergic contact dermatitis occurs when your skin has developed a sensitivity to a certain substance. This can be almost any substance - both natural substances (e.g. cotton) and synthetically produced substances (e.g. nickel sulphate, skin care products).
Non-allergic contact dermatitis can develop when your skin comes into contact with substances that are highly irritating (e.g. cleaning products).
Atopy
Atopic diseases are hereditary predispositions to develop an allergy. Common manifestations include neurodermatitis (atopic eczema), hay fever and pet allergies.
Eczema can also develop if the skin is irritated by external factors (e.g. cold or damp) for a long period of time.
Your path to healthy skin
Diagnosis
To find out the cause of your eczema, we first analyse the appearance of the skin change and discuss your medical history. Based on this, we can decide whether and what type of allergy tests are useful or necessary. We have a wide range of test variants available for both contact eczema and atopy.
Treatment
Eliminating the underlying causes is essential for healthy skin in the long term. We therefore use different therapeutic approaches depending on the cause. In many cases, short-term topical therapy with ointments containing cortisone is sufficient. Various medications and state-of-the-art biologics are also available, which can control the symptoms very well. But here, too, it is very important that the therapy is tailored to your individual needs. Come and see us.
